The Joys Of Winter Walks

Our guided walks in North Yorkshire, the Yorkshire Dales and the Peak District continue throughout the autumn and winter. We love introducing hikers to the beauty to be found on crisp, cold days.

So, why should you book your guided hikes at a time of year when the weather is unpredictable?

*If you have the right kit - the cold and wet shouldn't be miserable.

*Autumn colours are stunning - from red leaves and gold trees to the russet mushrooms and toadstools hiding in the undergrowth.

*We need outdoor exercise in the winter. The fresh air and vitamin D will further boost your physical and mental health.

*When the leaf cover has disappeared, so it's easier to spot birds.

*Hiking in great company during the day will make the longer nights much easier.

*Views on winter days are super clear, there's no haze and you can see for miles.

*Walking in the winter means you maintain your fitness for the spring and summer challenges you have planned.

*If the cloud covers the wider view, there is plenty to enjoy closer to the ground. Dew covered spider's webs, frost tipped pine trees and winter flowers.

*Snuggling up on the sofa after a hike in wind, rain and cold is blissful!

*Cloud inversions are more common in autumn and winter.
